Itumeleng Khune Kaizer Chiefs captain has highlighted that the Carling Black Label Champion Cup Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium tomorrow (3.30pm) could set the tone for the new season.
Khune warned his teammates to concentrate the entire match to avoid the lottery of penalties: “This game is very important because pride is at stake. Our fans want a win, it’s crucial for us to deliver. This is a chance to gauge our readiness ahead of the new season. It’s important to concentrate and wrap up the game in 90 minutes.”
It will be an interesting clash, considering Chiefs and Pirates have gone two seasons without a trophy.
Said Khune: “The last two seasons have been tough. We are looking forward to the new one to turn things around and reclaim our glory. It’s time we all step up to make our fans happy.”
The veteran player says this is a chance for players to cement their place in the team. “The coach has reminded those who get voted into the team by the fans to perform to the best of their ability. He will see if we take this game seriously before selecting a starting lineup.”
