A man aged 38 accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death was in his sober senses when he stabbed her, the Bafokeng Magistrates’ Court in Tlhabane heard on Thursday.
William Mthimkhulu told the court through his legal representative that he stabbed Mpho Mthini in the back on December 4, 2016, at a tavern in Lethabong near Rustenburg. He pleaded guilty to a charge of murder.
“We had an argument outside the tavern, I went to my car to fetch a knife. I charged at her and stabbed her in the back. I was in my sober senses,” he said in an affidavit read out in court.
He admitted that 25-year-old Mthini died as a result of him stabbing her with a knife.
He then put her inside the car and drove to the Rustenburg police station, where he reported the incident and handed himself over to the police.
Mthimkhulu has no previous convictions or pending cases and the matter was postponed to September 26 for pre-sentencing. His bail was extended.
