A ward councillor has been shot dead in Philippi East.
Councillor Xolile Gwangxu was gunned down following a meeting at a local community hall on Wednesday night.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear at this stage and arrests have yet to be made.
The City of Cape town's JP Smith says: “Councillor Gwangxu was shot in front of witnesses at his office at point-blank range. The city immediately dispatched Metro police members and Special Investigation Units to assist the SA Police Service with the investigation. We’re hoping for an early breakthrough so that we can bring his attackers to justice.”
