The ANC says it has full confidence in its Members of Parliament not to vote with opposition parties in the no confidence vote against President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday.
Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete said the no confidence vote will be held in secret, a decision that has pleased both civil society and opposition parties whowere calling for Zuma's head.
The ANC said it accepts the decision, but still believes in its MPs to toe the party line and not support the motion.
"The ANC reiterates its stance that we have full confidence in the ANC Caucus and individual members of parliament deployed by the African National Congress. We do not nor have we ever doubted their loyalty and discipline in relation to the decisions of the movement," said the ANC in statement.
"Accordingly, we have no doubt that this frivolous motion, which has been hyped up by opposition parties as some sort of Damascus moment, will fail like many before it."
Zuma has survived multiple votes of no confidence, and the ANC said it looks forward to making sure this latest one does not succeed.
It said the debate on Tuesday will be used to outline the ANC's successes.
"The ANC welcomes the opportunity to once again use the occasion of the debate on the motion of no confidence to speak to these successes which are daily lived reality for many of our people. Where there are concerns with the leadership of the ANC, the ANC will continue to engage and work with our people to resolve these challenges in the interest of the country as a whole," said the ANC.
ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu shared similar sentiments also boasting confidence in ANC MPs' ability to adhere to party protocol.
Mthembu last week said the consequences would disastrous if Zuma was voted out.
It is still unknown how many of the ANC's MPs will vote against Zuma, with some having already indicated that they would vote with their conscience.
Makhosi Khoza, Mondli Gungubele, Pravin Gordhan and Mcebisi Jonas had indicated that they would vote with their conscience.
Opposition parties were visibly happy about the Mbete's decision and said it was now up to ANC MPs to make a decision.
EFF leader Julius Malema said his party was confident that they had enough numbers from ANC MPs to support the vote. He said they would be working throughout the night to ensure it succeeds.
