Family Wants answers 'Estcourt Hospital'#Hospital Death

A 42-year-old Nombuso Mtimba was happy last month, when her daughter had a baby.
But excitement turned to grief when her daughter died in hospital days later!
The 42-year-old mum from Phangwini Village said all hospital staff told her was that her daughter Thobeka Khumalo (24), received an injection on the day she died at Estcourt Hospital in KZN’s Midlands.
Nombuso said she and the family wanted to know what injection Thobeka was given as they suspected it killed her.
“We have many unanswered questions because we are sure she was fine after giving birth on 25 July. We visited her and she was breastfeeding her son.
“We were surprised the next day when we received a call from the nurses telling us we should not be shocked if we visited to find her unresponsive.
“They said they had sedated her.”
Nombuso said she rushed to the hospital but found Thobeka had died.
“We tried getting answers but were unsuccessful as they refused us contact with hospital management. We don’t know what kind of injection they gave her and why,” she said.
Nombuso said she inspected the body and found Thobeka’s nose had bled. She suspected nurses were hiding something.
Family members told the SunTeam that Thobeka’s death certificate says she died of natural causes but they don’t believe it. KZN Health Department spokesman Sam Mkhwanazi said: “If the death certificate says natural causes, we don’t have any response to your inquiry.”
