THE Mpeleles are convinced their daughter, Zanele Hlatshwayo, was murdered and her private parts eaten by cannibals.
Zanele’s sister, Nozipho Mpelele (31) from Ntabamhlophe near Estcourt, KZN said the clothes Zanele wore when they last saw her were the same as those the police showed the family
Nozipho said they last saw Zanele on 25 July when she left to visit their sick gogo in Pietermaritzburg. She said Zanele’s phone was on voicemail.
“We didn’t panic but on Monday we heard people had confessed to eating human flesh,” she said.
They phoned her gogo and found she had never arrived.
They went to the cops and were shown clothes, including panties and a bag that matched what she was wearing.
The cops said the clothes came from a body an inyanga had shown them.
He allegedly confessed he had burned the head and arms to make muthi.
“We were even told the private parts were missing and could have been eaten,” said Nozipho.
KZN police spokeswoman Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said they don’t do identification using clothes.
“We have to do DNA testing.”
She said a fifth suspect was arrested on Tuesday night and will appear in the Umtshezi Magistrates Court today.
