Masentle Maile’s family is outraged that her husband was released from jail after allegedly shooting her in a fight over his nyatsi!
The trouble apparently started when the 31-year-old from Phadima in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, confronted her husband Hansie last Tuesday. She had learnt his lover was apparently pregnant with his child.
He allegedly took out a gun and shot his wife in the face during the argument. He fled the scene but Masentle miraculously survived and was rushed to hospital.
He was arrested soon after the incident for attempted murder, and Masentle’s family was outraged when he was later released on bail.
Her mum, Keneilwe Morosi, said: “My daughter is badly wounded but her attacker is roaming the streets. We suspect her husband, who is a cop, made the docket disappear.
“My daughter is no longer safe. He’s sending people to talk to her.”
Keneilwe claimed that two of the husband’s colleagues had visited Masentle in hospital to try and persuade her to drop the charges.
Keneilwe said on the day of the incident, her daughter ran to her neighbours to ask for help but Hansie followed her and shot her.
“We were contacted by a neighbour and rushed to the house. An ambulance arrived in time to take Masentle to hospital and she was admitted to ICU,” said Keneilwe.
The SunTeam approached the nyatsi but she said she did not want to talk. She would only confirm that she knew Masentle’s husband.
Sergeant Mashudu Phathela said a case of attempted murder was opened. Ipid is investigating the case.
