Six suspects believed to be part of a hijacking syndicate in Johannesburg are expected to appear in the Lenasia magistrates court on Monday.
A multi-disciplinary operation consisting of police and other crime intelligence units discovered that the suspects are linked to the theft of about 10 luxury vehicles worth more than R7 million.
A hand-held radio and two firearms were also seized in the arrest.
National police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo says: “We’re looking at cars like Porsche 911, a BMW X5, then we also had BMW M3, Audi RS7 which is worth R1 million, Mercedes-Benz, double cab vehicles like Toyota Hilux and Ford Rangers.”
Naidoo says the arrests are a huge breakthrough.
“This is a concerted effort by SAPS and other external role-players like Tracker and Bidvest Coin Security that have come to the party and assisted us in our efforts to overcome this category of crimes.”
