Captain Mbulaheni Netshivhodza said on Radio 702”The situation was really bad and tense‚ but
the police tried all their best to take control and resolve situation through
negotiation.
"He locked both of them in the house since the early
hours of the morning with a firearm. The police are currently negotiating the
safe release of the woman‚" Netshivhodza said.
Police were alerted to the situation by residents who
reported hearing gunshots.
The 37-year-old man had locked himself and the woman inside
a four-roomed house and had warned the SAPS negotiating team that he would
shoot himself and his girlfriend if his demands were not met.
"All the doors are locked and he has told us that he
doesn't want members of the community... near the room‚" Netshivhodza
said.
Another of his demands is that his girlfriend does not break
up with him.
